Naming Conventions
The Telecommunications Services Dept. and the Office of Public Safety have set standard naming conventions to aid OPS in cases of emergency. Below are the standards that have been set. Please call the Telecom Help Desk, 346-NETS, for more information.
Specific Person: Last Name, First Name (upper and lower case), i.e. Smith, John
Generic Person: Department-Title-Extension, i.e. English-GTF-60000
Department Name: DEPARTMENT NAME (IN CAPITAL LETTERS), i.e. ENGLISH, DEPARTMENT OF
Alarms & Special Campus Telephones: Line Type-Extension-Bldg Name-Location in Bldg,
i.e. EP-67888-MNH-EXT-LOT46 translates to Emergency phone # 67888 at the Museum of Natural History, exterior of building in parking lot 46.

- AF = Fire Alarm
- AH = Hold Up Alarm
- CP = Courtesy Phone
- EP = Emergency Phone
- EL = Elevator Phone
- Fax = Fax line
- MODM = Modem line
- RADO = Radio related line
- TDD = TDD related line
- TEMP = Temporary service
