  1. Answering and Making Calls
  2. Answering Calls:

    1. If you are not already on another call, lift the handset
      • Or press the corresponding call line button, located above the dial pad. If you only press the button without lifting the handset, it will put you on speaker phone with the incoming call.
    2. If you would like to use a different method:
      • Press the Speaker Speaker button button.
      • Press the Headset Headset button button.

    Making Calls:

    1. Start by either:
      • Lifting the handset;
      • Pressing the Headset Headset button button;
      • Pressing the Speaker Speaker button button; or
      • Pressing the Ok button button if an idle call line is available.
    2. Then dial the number you want to enter.
      • Remember to dial 9 for an outside number.

  1. Creating and Saving Contacts
  2. Creating Contacts

    1. Press the Contacts Contacts button button.
    2. Press the More softkey.
    3. Press the New softkey.
    4. Enter the name using the Dialpad.
      • To enter characters using the Dialpad:
        • Press the number key that corresponds to the ltter or number you want to enter until the letter or number is displayed.
          • Example: For the letter F, you must press the 3 key three times.
        • Remember to pause before entering the next character if the characters are on the same key.
        • Enter remaining letters or numbers.
        • To enter a space, press 0.
        • Press the Bksp softkey to delete the last character.
    5. When finished, press the Ok button button or the OK softkey.
    6. You will be prompted to enter the telephone number of the contact, enter it in the Name field.
    7. Press the Save softkey or the Ok button button.

    Calling Contacts

    1. Press the Contacts Contacts button button.
    2. Scroll up or down to select the person or number you want to call.
    3. Press the Call softkey.

  1. Conference Calls
  2. Making a Conference Call

    1. While already in a call, press the Transfer Transfer button button. Then either:
      • Dial the telephone number;
      • Call the person from your Contacts list; or
      • Call the person from your Call Log.
    2. Press the Conference Conference Button button again to complete the call.

    Adding a Person on Hold

    1. While already in a call, press the Conference Conference Button button.
    2. Press the call/line button (above the Dialpad) for the call on hold, or scroll to the call on hold and press the Resume softkey.
    3. Press the Conference Conference Button button again or the Join softkey.

    Dropping the Last Person

      • Press the Drop Drop button button.

    Put a Call on Hold

      • Press the Hold Hold button button.

    Transferring a Call

    1. While already in a call, press the Transfer Transfer button button.
    2. Dial the number which you would like to transfer. (5-digits for on-campus, 7-digits for off).
    3. Press the Transfer Transfer button button again to complete the call.

  2. Making a Call

    1. Press the Call Log Call Log Button button.
    2. Press the Left arrow or Right arrow to view the following different call types:
      • All Calls
      • Missed Calls
      • Answered Calls
      • Outgoing Calls
    3. After selecting the type of call, press the Up arrow or Down arrow to select the person or number from the previous selection.
    4. Press the Ok button button or the Call softkey.

    Adding a Contact from Call Log

    1. Press the Call Log Call Log Button button.
    2. Find the number through the process listed above.
    3. Press the Details softkey.
    4. Press the +Contact softkey.
      • To edit the name or number, press the Up arrow or Down arrow to select the corresponding field, then enter the numbers or letters with the Dialpad.
    5. Press the Save softkey or the Ok button button.

  1. Transferring Calls
    1. While already in a call, press the Transfer Transfer button button.
    2. Dial the number which you would like to transfer. (5-digits for on-campus, 7-digits for off).
    3. Press the Transfer Transfer button button again to complete the call.

  1. Forward and Parking/Picking Up Calls
  2. Forwarding A Call

    • To set forwarding:
    1. Pick up the receiver and listen for a dial tone.
    2. Dial * 2.
    3. Enter Extension # to Forward to New #.
    4. Listen for Confirmation Tone (3 beeps)
    5. Hang up the receiver.
    • To cancel forwarding:
    1. Pick up the receiver and listen for a dialtone.
    2. Dial # 2 2.
    3. Listen for Confirmation Tone (3 beeps).
    4. Hang up the receiver.

    Parking and Picking Up Calls

    1. Press the Hold Hold button button to park the
      call.
    2. Pick up the receiver.
    3. Dial # 7 7.
    4. Dial the extension where the call is currently parked.
    5. Call should ring through.
 
  1. Send All Calls
  2. Through the Phone

    1. Push the Features softkey.
    2. Push the Up or Down arrow until you see the SendAllCalls softkey.
    3. Press the Ok button button.
    4. To turn off this feature, repeat step 1-3.
    5. The top right button on the programmed buttons above the number pad should also toggle Send All Calls.

    Calling the Phone

    • You can also dial * 8 to set Send All Calls and # 8 8 to unset.

  1. Other Basic Information
    1. Press the button to get back to the main phone screen at any time.
    2. The Message Button button will take you to voicemail. For more information on voicemail, see the voicemail reference.
    3. The white rectangular buttons under the screen are the “soft key” buttons; functions on these buttons change depending on what you’re doing.
    4. Each phone has 3 line appearances of the programmed number. That lets you take multiple calls, transfer calls, etc. We normally program these line appearances on the first three buttons.
    5. The 1608 uses a “desi-strip” (printed card) to show how buttons are programmed. If you change your phone programming, you can have telecom send you a new desi-strip.
