Three-Way and Conference Calling Instructions

Three way calling is different depending on your telephone set. Here is a list of different equipment types including quick reference guides and information.

The three most common types of phones are below. The link will direct you to information about the respective conference calling instructions.

Call Waiting

When a second call is coming in, you will hear a short "beep."
If finished talking with the first caller, hang up.
The telephone will ring and you can answer the second call.

If you wish to place the first caller on hold and answer the second,
Depress the switch hook or the flash button on your telephone.
Wait for dialtone.
Touch *4 to place the first caller on hold.

To alternate between two calls:
Repeat: switch hook or flash button, dialtone, *4.

To end a conversation while another call is on hold:
Hang up. The telephone will ring and you can return to the second caller.

Three-Way Calls

The three-way calling feature allows you to add a third party, either on or off campus to your telephone conversation.

1. Press the switch hook or flash button to put the first caller on a "soft" hold.
2. Call the third party.
3. Press the switch hook or flash button again to join all parties together.

To drop a third call: Press the switch hook or flash button, then continue the original call.

To drop yourself out of a three-way call: Hang up; the remaining parties may continue to talk.

DANGER: If one of the calls on the three-way call is someone you called long distance, the charges for the long-distance call will continue to be billed to your telephone as long as they are on the call, even if you hang up!
